The Formula for Thriving Success AND Happiness

Success and happiness go hand in hand.  You could be successful or you could be happy but to have thriving success or thriving happiness, you must have both! 

Just pause reading this article and think about it for a minute.  When was the last time you observed or interacted with someone who appeared to be experiencing thriving success?  Didn’t they seem extremely happy as well?  How about when you observed or interacted with someone who appeared to be living a very happy life?  Did they not also have thriving success in some area of their life?

Tony Hsieh, Founder and CEO of Zappos.com, really drove this home recently when he presented at the Gazelles Sales and Marketing Summit in Las Vegas.  Zappos.com was built on the premise of achieving both thriving success and happiness.  Tony experienced tremendous success with his first company, LinkExchange, when he sold it to Microsoft $265 million.  However, he said he very unhappy for a good part of his time growing that venture.

Many people might believe that Tony could then just focus on creating his own happiness after such a lucrative exit from his first business.  However, Tony was not happy to just search for happiness without experiencing active success in his life.  Thus, he pursued his next venture and launched Zappos.com with the idea of creating both thriving success and happiness together.  His new book, Delivering Happiness, shares all that he has learned while trying to create both success and happiness at once

There is a formula for achieving thriving success and happiness.  I have found that it involves:

• The Drive to do something that will give you a sense of success and happiness at once
• Commitment to implementing on the right Disciplines to make success and happiness happen
• Finding opportunities to explore Data, engage in Dialogue and Debate, and facilitate Discoveries on your journey
• Making Decisions that improve your success and happiness
• Determination to overcome obstacles to your success and happiness
